(File Photo)THE Maharashtra Congress today sought to know the reason for the silence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and two Deputy Chief Ministers over allegedly defamatory remarks made by a BJP leader against Jayshree Thorat, daughter of senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat.
The Congress said it showed how much respect the Mahayuti Government had for women at a time when it was parading its “Ladki Bahin Yojana” to woo the masses.
”Yesterday, former MP Sujay Vikhe-Patil’s supporter and a BJP leader made a defamatory statement against Jayshree Thorat, daughter of our senior leader Balsaheb Thorat. Even 72 hours later, our Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have failed to condemn the remarks…Why are they silent ? Are they happy that a woman has been insulted and threatened? Will they clarify their stand,” said Gopal Tiwari, spokesperson of the Maharashtra Congress.
Tiwari said the Mahayuti Government was repeatedly telling the people how much they respect the womenfolk of Maharashtra. ”They were citing the Ladki Bahin Yojana to buttress their claim of respecting women. But when its own leader makes a defamatory and threatening statement, the CM and Deputy CM do not even have the nicety to condemn the incident or even issue a statement. This only shows that the Mahayuti leaders and its government have no respect for womenfolk of Maharashtra,” he said.
Tiwari said instead of empowering our womenfolk, the Mahayuti leaders are insulting and threatening them. ”This is one of the worst governments of Maharashtra in power. Women were never treated like this during successive Congress regimes,” he said.
Tiwari said it was a shame that in the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Savitribai Phule, women are treated so badly by its rulers. ”We are fully confident the voters will teach the Mahayuti leaders and their government a lesson by throwing them out of power,” he said.
