Chain-snatching: 4 cases in a day,3 in 45 minutes

Four chain-snatching incidents were reported in parts of the city on Wednesday evening.

Four chain-snatching incidents were reported in parts of the city on Wednesday evening. Three of these incidents occurred in Dhankawadi area within 45 minutes.

Deccan Gymkhana police said a motorcycle-borne person had snatched the gold chain of one Sushila Jadhav,64,around 7 pm when she was on her way home on Prabhat Road. Assistant police inspector M K Kulkarni said,“We have launched a hunt.”

The other three incidents occurred in the jurisdiction of Sahakarnagar police,where three elderly women were robbed of gold chains within 45 minutes. Two motorcycle-borne men were involved in all these incidents. Police said they were yet to verify if the same duo was involved in all these crimes.

The first incident was reported around 6.15 pm at Rakshalekha Society,in which Uma Saudalgekar,56,was robbed near the Chavan Nagar entrance. Another woman,Aparna Apte,was robbed of her chain around 15 minutes later a few 100 m away from the spot. One Anuradha Talikoti was robbed of her chain near Rajmudra Society later.

Sub inspector Mahadev Gawade of Sahakarnagar police said they had conducted a nakabandi of the area immediately. “Combing operations are on to track the suspects.”
