Gujarat Revenue Minister Anandi Patel on Sunday said their representatives will start collecting used iron farming tools to construct Statue of Unity — the ambitious Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue project — from December 15. In the city along with a 10-member delegation of MLAs,MPs and bureaucrats,she said the project was conceived by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The project aims to construct the tallest statue (182 m) in the world. “The campaign will be launched in 7 lakh villages across the country on December 15,the death anniversary of Sardar Patel. The iron collected from farmers will be used to construct the statue,” she said.

Patel said essay competition,unity run and other events would be organised to spread the message of Statue of Unity and its purpose. “The statue will come up on the banks of Narmada at Sadhubet. CM had laid the foundation stone for the project on October 31,the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel,” she said.

She said the memorial would be completed in three-four years. City unit President Anil Shirole and women’s wing President Medha Kulkarni welcomed the delegation.
