The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has decided to carry out repairs on the cantonment buildings in a major way and has finalised the bids for the same.
Officials said the PCB has approved the bids by Regal Construction for the repair of its schools,hospitals and other cantonment buildings after members of the board pointed out that some of the buildings were in bad shape. The cantonment board finalised the bids in a meeting held recently,in which it was also decided take up the repair of its drainage system and to set up a record room for the common archival unit of the Southern Command. The PCB had received eight bids for the repair of the its buildings.
We have decided to carry out the repairs of all major buildings within the cantonment area including the schools and hospitals. We have 9 schools from which 3 are high schools, said board member Manzoor Shiekh.
For the repair of the drainage system within the cantonment area,the board has decided to get the work done through Sonali Constructions. The PCB had received seven tenders. The cantonment board had called the bids on 30 of July this year and in response to that it received the bids in August and finalised them last month. Work on both the repair of drains and buildings will take place shortly.
Officials also said the cantonment board decided to set up an archival unit within the cantonment area which will act as a common facility for the different cantonments of the Southern Command. Besides repair of the existing buildings,we also decided to raise a building for the setting up of archival unit in the cantonment board, said,Shiekh. The cantonment board infact has also decided to outsource the scanning,micro-filming work of the records at the Defence Estate Office (DEO),Chennai also resolved to approach the Principal Director Defence Estates (DE) for the safe keeping,location and utilisation items like scanner,server,desktop and other office purchases to be made for the unit.
