Big worry for development authority: illegal constructions

An internal study by Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority has revealed that there are as many as 14,938 illegal structures in its jurisdiction.

An internal study by Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNDTA) has revealed that there are as many as 14,938 illegal structures in its jurisdiction. The illegal constructions have mushroomed in Bhosari,Thergaon,Wakad,Rahatni,Nigdi and Chikhli over a period of three decades.

Thousands of residents in these structures have appealed to the state government that it should take a sympathetic view of their situation and regularise the structures.

The PCNDTA officials said that a report on illegal structures was sent to the state government and the state asked the PCNDTA administration why it did not act when the structures were being constructed.

The PCNDTA had handed over the contract to survey illegal structures, around 500 hectare within PCNDTA limits,to a private company,at Rs 10,000 per hectare.

The PCNDTA has,so far, spent Rs 50 lakh on surveying illegal structures using total station and GPS technology. Till now,207 hectares of land has been surveyed using the total station digital global positioning system.

The state government had established the PCNDTA to help those working in industries or who have set up shops in the industrial area of Pimpri Chinchwad, get houses at reasonable rates.

The authorities acquired land in ten villages — Moshi,Nigdi,Akurdi,Ravet,Chinchwad,Rahtni,Thergaon,Chikal and Wakad. So far,1,627 hectares have been acquired.
