Bapat strikes gold in Beijing Olympiad

Pune’s Aniruddha Bapat has won gold medal in the fourth International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) held in Beijing last week. Aniruddha was a part of the four-member Indian team that won 3 gold and 2 bronze medals among them.

A total of 24 teams from across 22 countries including China,Korea,Iran,Brazil,Greece,Poland,Russia,Romania and Thailand participated in the Olympiad. This Olympiad competition consists of tests in astrophysical theory,astronomical data analysis as well as night sky observations. Chirag Modi of Indore and Nitesh Kumar Singh of Mumbai are the other members of the Indian team,who won gold medals along with Aniruddha. Shantanu Agarwal of Patna and Kottur Satwik of Hyderabad won a bronze medal each.
