The Pune police have received the ballistic report in the Dr Narendra Dabholkar murder case. As per the report, four cartridges, including two live cartridges that the cops had recovered from the crime scene were fired from the same firearm.

ACP (crime) Rajendra Bhamre said the police are already checking history-sheeters involved in crimes like murders, attempt to murders, dacoities, robberies. The police also questioned several gangsters, including those lodged in jails across the state who are known to have network among the contract killers.

The police suspect that assailants shot at least three bullets on Dabholkar from point blank range. But four cartridges, including two live bullets, were recovered from crime scene. Bhamre said the police are checking more CCTV footage. So far the investigation teams have collected 169 CCTV footage of which 117 have been checked. The assailants could be seen in seven clips.

However, the quality of these clips is poor. So the police have sent a few of them to a lab in UK for analysis. A special police team has been formed to collect more CCTV clips from strategic spots in the city. A CCTV footage shows that two persons came near Omkareshwar bridge around 6.15 am on August 20 on a motorcycle. They parked the vehicle, followed Dabholkar for some time and then shot him dead at 7.15 pm.

An eyewitness said after killing Dabholkar, the assailants walked towards their motorcycle parked at a close distance from the Shaniwar Peth police chowki. Based on description given by eyewitnesses, the police have been able to release the sketch of two suspects who had opened fire on Dabholkar.

Meanwhile, the police have also collected information of 18 programmes conducted by the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti (MANS). The police said these programmes were based on issues that were opposed by other outfits. Police are also compiling data of the police complaints registered by the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti (MANS) to get clues about the murderers.
