The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is probing whether there is any link between the German Bakery blast in Pune and the bomb blast in the Israeli diplomats car in Delhi. The state ATS has contacted Delhi police in this connection.
While both the terror attacks were executed on February 13,investigators suspect that German Bakery was chosen as the target because it was located close to the Jewish Chabbad House in Koregaon Park.
Rakesh Maria, state ATS chief said,We have sought information from Delhi police about the terror attack today. At this stage,I will not like to throw light on any link between Pune blast and Delhi attack. We would be able to comment on the connection between the two cases only after we receive details from Delhi.
It was revealed earlier that 26/11 suspect David Headley, posing as a Jewish American, had been to the Jewish Chabbad House in Koregaon Park and stayed at the Osho International Commune during his visits to Pune. An accused in 26/11 terror attack,Headley had also reportedly visited the Jewish centre at Nariman House in Mumbai. Investigators had reportedly recovered a book with instructions on praying like Jews from his possession when he was arrested in Chicago in 2009.
Meanwhile, the Pune city police have sounded an alert and beefed up security around Israeli religious centres.
Police said security arrangements were already in place at the Jewish Chabbad House and the two synagogues in Pune Camp and Rasta Peth. But following reports about the terror attack in Delhi, additional security measures have been taken. Deputy commissioner of police (special branch) Sanjay Jadhav confirmed that security has been stepped up in the city.
