Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor said that Pakistan must ensure that their nuclear weapons did not fall into the hands of rogue elements. Kapoor was reacting to reports that Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari had transferred the country’s nuclear controls to Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday.

However,Kapoor did not comment over Pakistani born LeT operative David Headley’s emerging links with the Pakistan Prime Minsiter Gilani’s office.

On Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of the Pak PM Danyal Gilani acknowledged David Headley – formerly Daood Gilani – as his half-brother,whom he had met last year at their father’s funeral.

“It is not so much concern that the nuclear weapons control has passed on to Prime Minister Gilani. More important is that they have complete control of their nukes that it does not fall into wrong hands – that is of more concern to us,” Kapoor said, speaking to media after the passing out parade of the 117 th course at the National Defence Academy.

Kapoor also emphasized the need to improve infrastructure on the Indian side along Tibet.

There has been good infrastructure development in Tibet; we should also develop our core infrastructure and bring it to acceptable levels,” Kapoor said.

He downplayed Chinese weapons technology transfer to Pakistan. “As far as ‘collusion’ between China and Pakistan is concerned,we also have good relations with China. Our trade relations are progressing,” he said adding that systems were in place to discuss border disputes on a regular basis.
