All-rounders’ day in under-19 tourney

All-round performances were the order of the day at the Vinoo Mankad Trophy West Zone under-19 one-day tournament on Tuesday. At Poona Club,Gujarat recorded a tense 16-run win over Saurashtra,thanks to the pair of Akash Parkar and Karan Virodia who put on an unbroken eighth wicket stand of 120 in 66 balls. They took Gujarat from 106 for seven to their eventual score of 226 for seven. Virodia then starred with the ball as well,taking three for 45 as Saurashtra were bowled out for 210,with 13 balls still remaining.

At PYC Hindu Gymkhana,Mumbai began their campaign with a six-wicket win over Baroda. Batting first,Baroda failed to capitalise on the 50s from openers Mrunal Deodhar and Dhiren Mistry,and were bowled out for 237,with Akash Parkar running through the middle and late order with figures of four. In reply,Mumbai lost just four wickets,with Parkar scoring 67 and Pratik Babu an unbeaten 79 to guide them home with more than two overs to spare.
