Maharashtra Minister of State and Shiv Sena MLA from Dapoli Yogesh Kadam on Thursday said the likely alliance between Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray might have an impact on the workers but not on the voters.

Kadam, who currently holds the charge of Minister of State for Home, Revenue, Rural Development and Food and Drug Administration, was speaking at a media interaction organised by the Pune Union of Working Journalists on Thursday.

When asked whether the likely alliance between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray will have an impact on Mahayuti, Kadam said, “We have to understand why they are coming together now. They were not on talking terms with each other till now. In the past, political alliance between them was unlikely and the rift between them at the family level had also widened. They are coming together now only for the Marathi vote, nothing else. In order to regain power over the Mumbai civic body, they want the Marathi voters, who have alienated them.”

“During the Lok Sabha polls, people with links to Dawood Ibrahim had waved flags in their rallies. That had hit them and because of that the Marathi voters stayed away from them. Their thought is that bringing that Marathi voter closer is only possible if they come together. But people are aware of this and cannot be fooled. It’s not that Marathi voters vote only for them. We too who have gotten elected and have the strong backing of Marathi voters. So I feel their attempt will not be successful,” said the MLA.

Kadam further said, “When Uddhavji was the Chief Minister, he could have taken decisions that would have benefited Marathi people. The Marathi manoos has been pushed out of Mumbai. Why did they not give affordable housing to Marathi people? Eknath Shinde ji is doing that now. We are ready to make a decision to give reservation to Marathi people in the MHADA lottery system and have shown political will for it. So them (Uddhav and Raj) coming together might have some impact on the workers but not on the voters. The workers might be elated but it will not convert into votes on ground.”
