All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society (AISSMS) recently organised Indo-German colloquium-2013 where the need for opting for non-conventional agricultural practices in order to ensure effective water management was discussed.
Speaking at the inauguration of the event,Shree Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj,said,The society should rethink about conventional ways of agricultural practices to ensure effective management of water. The water required for crops like sugarcane is causing serious issues. Increasing population,uncertainty of rain,casual approach towards water and water pollution has compeled us to think seriously about water management.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between AISSMS and German delegates with an aim for collaborative efforts in the field of effective water management. AISSMS honorary secretary Capt Shivaji Mahadkar dwelt upon the inadequate infrastructure and lack of skilled manpower among other issues in the filed of water management and hoped MoU would help address the challenges.
Speaking on the occasion,former chairman of the Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority Ajit Nimbalkar highlighted the overall scenario of water sector and water usage with changing time.
Senior German delegate Annika Meinecke said that experience sharing between Indian and German experts would help in exploring the best method of water management suitable for India.
Forbes Marshall Ltds corporate manager Ramani Iyer,AISSMS office bearers Malojiraje Chhatrapati,Diliprao Umbarkar and Ajay Patil along with Sanjay Danao,principal of AISSMS College of Engineering,were also present.
