The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Friday announced the opening of registration for the national-level Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) for admission to management courses.
The last date for filing online applications is January 2. However, students in the state may not give much importance to the second exam,as the state government has reintroduced the common entrance test for management courses.
The AICTE conducts CMAT twice a year for students who want to get into management colleges across the country. The second CMAT will be held from February 20- 24 next year and the result will be out on March 14,said the notification.
The CMAT was made compulsory last year for admission to state institutes. But a Delhi High court decision on October 7 declared that the CMAT is not compulsory for admission, saying that the MBA course is not a technical course within the definition of AICTE Act and consequently AICTE has no jurisdiction to regulate or control MBA courses.
Private colleges are happy with the decision of the Delhi High Court, said Parag Kalkar,a senate and academic council member of the university and also the director of Sinhgad Institute of Business Administration and Computer Applications.
The AICTE was forcing the states to take admissions as per the CMAT exams. The enrollment was so low last year that almost 50 per cent of the seats were not filled in the state. But now, with this decision, and with the state conducting its own entrance,we are sure that the enrollment will go up in the coming academic year, said Kalkar.
Graduates in any discipline or final year students of graduate courses (10+2+3) whose result will be declared before commencement of admission for 2014,can apply for the CMAT online, said the notification.
But with the state CET in the offing,85 per cent seats in aided and 65 per cent seats in unaided colleges will be reserved for students who qualify in the state CET. Only 15 per cent seats will be reserved for students who clear the national entrances, like the CAT,JMET,MAT,XAT,ATMA and CMAT,said the notification, which was issued by the Directorate of Technical Education.
