Ahead of monsoon,civic body gets ready with a contingency plan

Pune Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagade has directed the heads of all civic departments to prepare their respective action plan to tackle any eventuality during the monsoon.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagade has directed the heads of all civic departments to prepare their respective action plan to tackle any eventuality during the monsoon.

After taking review of the situation in the city during the last two years,he said the action plan should take into account the possibilities of heavy rainfall. Zagade directed the civic officers to hold a separate meeting with the representatives of civil,defence and home guards.

He asked his staff to identify the spots prone to waterlogging during monsoons and take steps to avoid any repeat of the previous year situations.

While the road department has been asked to clean up the nullahs and remove all encroachments on the roads,the building department has been directed to evacuate hutments in the danger zone of Mutha riverside.

The PMC will also make a 24-hour flood control cell at the civic headquarters operational from June 1 to October 31. The civic officers have been asked to make arrangements to shelter citizens who will be rescued in case of flood-like situation.
