Agri college tips on mushroom,to Sudan team

The College of Agriculture,Pune is starting a training programme for mushroom cultivation for a team from Sudan.

The College of Agriculture,Pune is starting a training programme for mushroom cultivation for a team from Sudan.

The project,funded by British Council,will be a five-year long collaboration. The team,comprising three faculty members will arrive in the city in October for a month-long training period.

The project ‘Mushroom technology and farming for livelihood security for small and marginal farmers of the Khartoum state’ will have follow-up visits by the Indian team of trainers to the University of Al Zaeim Al Azhari,Khartoum,Sudan,in March next year. A proposal was sent to the British Council by Hosameldin Hessain,who was a Ph D student at the College of Agriculture,nearly six years ago. He submitted the proposal to the British Council in February,which set the ball rolling for the project. The project will get 20,000 pounds a year.

B R Ulmek,associate dean,College of Agriculture said,“It is part of the DelPHI programme of the British Council,under the Department for International Development. The team from Sudan will receive training at our mushroom unit. They will go back and create their units in their university. Our team will visit as and when needed. ”
