Exactly a month ago,Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal was in Pune to perform the play Krishan v/s Kanhaiyya at Alpa Bachat Bhavan, when he collapsed backstage halfway through the play. Doctors at the Jehangir Hospital had said that it was a case of dehydration and food poisoning. A repeat performance was organised at the Pune Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre on September 3. Receiving congratulations and appreciation from the thrilled audience after his performance,Rawal said,I could have pulled it off even then but the lack of air-conditioning made it difficult when I was already exhausted. The play was a charity show organised to raise funds for the Prashanti Cancer Care Mission. Based on the Gujarati play,Kanji Virudh Kanji ,Krishan v/s Kanhaiyya tells the story of an atheist antique seller,Krishanlal Mehta, whose shop is destroyed in an earthquake. When he tries to claim insurance for it though,he is told acts of God are uninsured. The play then depicts his battle with God,quite literally,in a court of law and explores the arguments for and against the existence of God. The play ends with one of the Gods,Kanhaiyya, actually revelaing himself to Krishan. Speaking about his own approach to religion,Rawal said,I believe in one religion the religion of humanity. Then God really is everywhere. Perhaps that is why what I say in the play is convincing and the audience believes me, he adds. The actor is now looking forward to the release of the movie,Zilla Ghaziabad.
