Businessman Sachit Jains latest book is a treatise on how to balance life and work
All beautiful concepts in life are simple. Sachit Jain, executive director of Vardhman group of companies, perhaps wants to bring out the same thought through his new book Ready For Take off. The book was launched at Symbiosis Center for Management and Human Resource Development (SCMHRD),Hinjewadi,at the hands of Meher Pudumjee, managing director of Thermax on January 5. On the occasion,Jain emphasised the importance of keeping things simple – be it business or family. I have tried to explain management concepts in the book in a language that even a layman can understand. I truly believe that the real beauty of life lies in keeping things simple.
Real life experiences inspired this IIT-D and IIM-A graduate to write a book. Like the protagonist Anurag in the book, who was forced to become the boss of a sick company called Ajanta Special Steel,I too had to handle a manufacturing factory which I had little clue of. All the experiences and hardships that Anurag grapples with while turning around the factory, were personally survived or noticed by me too, he quips.
Throwing light on the unusual title of the book, the author says,I first thought of naming the book ‘Turn Around’,but there are many books by the same name. By then I had already started working on the sequel of the book that I have named ‘Take Off’ and since this book was prequel,I decided to name it as ‘Ready For Take Off ‘. The title has another deeper meaning to it. People think that the boss is a larger than life character, but he too is a normal person. It is about unleashing the potential within oneself and achieving your goal, adds Jain. The Indian literary scene has seen a rise in trend in books by IIT,IIM graduates, but what sets this author apart from others is the concept of the book. Unlike others,Jain did not choose to write about his experiences at the premier B-school or IIT. This is a book about leadership. I haven’t included any of my college experiences. I think that’s what sets my book apart from the others in the lot, says he.
Jain emphasises that his book is not only about leadership but also about lessons in life and happiness. He has a piece of advice to give to all budding leaders. Live by yourself and follow your values. Stick to the values you are comfortable with. Never compromise on them in order to achieve success.
Life is not about working and achieving targets, but about maintaining a perfect work and life balance. I make sure I spend quality time with my family. I also play lot of squash to unwind myself and I am also very fond of martial arts, says Jain.
