A brush with New York

Three paintings by city-based artist Ravi Paranjape are on display at an art exhibition in New York.

After London and San Francisco,city-based artist Ravi Paranjape’s works have made it to a gallery in New York City,USA. Three of Paranjape’s paintings – acrylic and oil on canvas – are a part of the 10-day ongoing exhibition, which began on November 10,at the Broadway Art Gallery in NYC. The exhibition has been organised by Abraham Lubelski, publisher of NY Arts Magazine and owner of the Broadway Art Gallery.

In 1999,50 of Paranjape’s paintings were displayed at the ‘Megharaj Gallery Exhibition’ in London. Thirty of them were sold. After London, his artworks made it to an exhibition in San Francisco. Paranjape’s works have also been featured in the reputed Australian magazine – International Artists . ” I have always tried to depict realistic things in my pictures,” says the artist who has in the last 40 years, created more than 600 paintings. “The paintings at the New York exhibition depict Indian culture. One is a Rajasthani montage, the second one is a still life picture and the third is a landscape painting. I am looking forward to a good response,” he adds.

Paranjape’s creativity extends even beyond his expert brush strokes. He has also written eight books, including an autobiography. In 1995,he was awarded the CAG Hall Of Fame Award by the Communication Arts Guild in 1995. He says,“Every artist should find his own way of painting and he should be unique. You should not get into the conflict of tradition and modernity. Tradition taken to a higher level through your work is in fact modernity.”
