Pune city police arrested three women from a family for their alleged involvement in the trade of marijuana.
Police identified the accused as Sonabai Ankush Pawar (50), Suvarna Ashok Pawar (25) and Shalan Kantilal Jadhav (45), all residents of Khulewadi, a locality in Chandan Nagar area of Pune city.
While patrolling the area, police sub inspector Nitin Rathod of the Vimantal police station, received information that some women were selling marijuana in Kalewadi on Thursday.
As per the directions of senior police inspector Govind Jadhav, a police team laid a trap and nabbed the three accused women in Khulewadi. During search, the cops seized 1,560 grams of marijuana worth Rs 3,000 from their possession, stated a press release issued on Friday.
A first information report (FIR) was lodged against the accused women at Vimantal police station as per sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police sub inspector Chetan Bhosale, the investigation officer of this case said, “A court has remanded the three accused women to police custody till September 29 for further investigation.”
“All three are members of the same family and residing in the same area. A probe is on to know how they procured the banned marijuana and to whom they were planning to sell it,” said Bhosale.
Police suspect that some drug peddlers in the city may have lured the women into marijuana racket on assurances of earning good money by selling the banned drug. A probe is on to identify the drug peddlers who supplied the marijuana to the accused, police said.
