3 held for extortion bid

The anti-extortion cell of Pune police has arrested three persons for allegedly demanding Rs 7.8 lakh from a woman for facilitating her daughter's admission to BBA-LLB course at Symbiosis Institute.

The anti-extortion cell of Pune police has arrested three persons for allegedly demanding Rs 7.8 lakh from a woman for facilitating her daughter’s admission to BBA-LLB course at Symbiosis Institute. The suspects were remanded in police custody till July 3 by the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) ST Doke.

Interestingly,the police team that produced the suspects in court did not bring the copy of the First Information Report of the case to the court. The hearing began after the police produced the FIR copy later.

The accused Savita Milind Pawar (39),a resident of Vidyanagar,Sachin Baban Bhalerao (32) and Nilesh Digambar Gaikwad (32),both of Nana Peth,were arrested on Wednesday based on a complaint by Jagannath Pathare,head,human resources and administration with the institute. A parent from Uttarakhand had approached the management after Pawar allegedly demanded a bribe.
