A special court in Pune on Friday sentenced three men to life imprisonment for allegedly raping and murdering a 16-year-old girl in 2014. The three have to serve the jail term till their death, it said.
After committing the crime, the accused had dumped the body of the victim in a trolley bag on the platform of Talegaon Dabhade railway station in Pune. Special judge J G Dorle passed an order convicting the accused and awarding them life-term.
The convicts are identified as Rahul Ravindra Barai, Ishan Hamjan Ali Qureshi and a history-sheeter Santosh Vishnu Jugdar, all residents of Mumbai.
The Government Railway Police, Pune, had found the body of the victim in a bag at Talegaon Dabhade railway station on May 7, 2014.
An FIR was lodged and inspector Arun More, then attached to the GRP, initiated a probe into the case.
In quick time, police arrested Barai and Qureshi (both 21 years at the time of crime) and Jugdar, who was then 33 years old.
Police said the accused gang raped and murdered the minor girl as she had refused to be a part of their criminal gang. ens
