The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB),Pune,arrested Kiran Mahajan,deputy collector of the tenancy branch at the district collectorate,and his clerk Rajesh Randive on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a land owner.
According to the ACB,the complainant hails from Khangaon in Mulshi.
His land was involved in litigation under the Bombay Tenancy and Agriculture Lands Act. To clear the land,he has been approaching the Pune district collectorate for the last one and a half year.
As Mahajan allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from the complainant for the purpose in June this year,the latter lodged a complaint with the ACB.
The ACB sleuths had been reportedly observing the developments in this case since June. A team comprising its superintendent Sarang Awhad,deputy superintendent Rajendra Galande,inspector Ashwini Satpute and others laid a trap at the district collectorate around 8.30 pm on Wednesday.
They caught Randive while accepting the bribe money on behalf of Mahajan and arrested both. A case was registered against them at the Bund Garden police station.
