A speeding truck collided head-on with a car on the Pune-Solapur highway near the National Grapes Research Centre,causing the death of two persons in the early hours of Monday. The accident left two others injured.
The deceased are Govind Sheshrao Gholve (20) of Beed and Vyanket Adabla (27) of Hyderabad. Injured Sarathi Parimal Singh (27) and Mamta Kshetri (23) of Darjeeling have been admitted to hospital.
A case was registered with the Loni Kalbhor police station. Assistant police inspector Savita Dhamdhere lodged the first information report. Police have arrested the truck driver,Abdul Shaikh (28) of Latur,on charges of negligent driving.
Police said Shaikh was driving the truck towards Pune. The car was going towards Solapur. Shaikh allegedly lost control and the truck hit the car around 1 am. The impact was so severe that the car came under the truck.
A fire brigade team and a crane were pressed into action to take the victims out of the car. While two persons had died on the spot,the injured were admitted to a local hospital.
