‘You know nothing, your father owes political career to support I extended: Nitish attack on Tejashwi

Tejashwi, in his speech, criticised the state government for its “failure to improve Bihar”. “Sarkar khatara, system nakara, Mukhyamantri thaka hara aur aam aadmi mara mara (The government is defunct, the system is useless, the Chief Minister is tired and the common man is suffering),” he said.

The Bihar Assembly witnessed a heated exchange on Tuesday between the Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and members of the NDA government over the state’s development, past governance and political legacies, during a discussion on the Governor’s address.

Attacking Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s repeated reference to Bihar’s pre-2005 situation, Tejashwi said: “For 10 years, the CM has been stuck in a loop, repeatedly talking about what happened before 2005… Today I will respond to everything, especially on the period before 2005 and what Lalu Prasad (former CM and RJD president) achieved,” he said.

He said Lalu Prasad “championed social justice, empowered backward communities, minorities, and other marginalised groups” during his tenure. “Under Lalu-ji, there were no communal riots,” said the RJD MLA, adding that Prasad-led RJD government pushed societal growth and developed health and education infrastructure. “Before 2005, there were six medical colleges (in Bihar); 90% people still get treated there,” he said.  “When we take power, we will not blame the past, we will move forward and take Bihar to the top in the next five years.” Tejashwi said: “In Bihar, rats drink up nine lakh litres of alcohol… Bihar mein chuhon ki bahar hai, kyuki mukhyamantri Nitish Kumar hai.”

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hit back, criticising Tejashwi for his “ignorance of history”. Recalling the days before 2005, he said, “Before we came to power, Bihar was a place where no one could step out after dark. There was a lack of basic infrastructure and public safety was a big issue. There were no roads, no schools, and no basic facilities. The state was in total disarray,” he said.

As Opposition members began raising angry slogans, Nitish told them in an admonitory tone, “You people are children. Do you know what was the situation back then (pre-2005)?” Pointing towards Tejashwi, he said, “Even he is a child”. “When Yadav rose to interject, Nitish told him, “You know nothing. Your father owes his political career to the support I had extended, notwithstanding opposition from people of your own caste.”  Nitish said under his tenure, Bihar made tremendous progress by “creating more jobs, reducing communal tensions, and improving public services”. “Women and girls can now move around freely even late at night,” Kumar said. “When I came to power, there were six medical colleges in Bihar. Today, there are 12.”

Earlier, Tejashwi took potshots at Deputy CM  Samrat Chaudhary reminding him of his roots in what is now called the INDIA bloc.  The debate escalated into a personal confrontation between Tejashwi and Samrat when the LoP mocked the Deputy CM’s political shift, calling him “a fake BJP man”. Samrat hit back, saying, “Your father looted Bihar,”.

During Nitish’s speech, the Opposition MLAs staged a walkout, prompting the CM to remark, “After the elections, we will be back.  They have run away because they neither know nor understand anything.”
