The newly formed Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar unveiled a broad set of measures focused on large-scale employment generation and rapid industrial expansion in its first Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. There is a plan to provide one crore jobs in the next five years.
The meeting set out the government’s policy direction for the next five years, endorsing proposals centered on leveraging Bihar’s youth population and boosting economic growth.
The Cabinet gave its nod for setting up of 11 satellite townships or green‑field townships in each of nine divisions, besides one each in Sonepur and Sitamarhi, aimed at planned and quality urban development in the state. It also approved a proposal for the establishment of Bihar Artificial Intelligence Mission to position the state as a leading player in the AI domain.
The Cabinet also unveiled a proposal to develop the state as the tech hub of Eastern India by establishing a defence corridor, a semi-conductor manufacturing park, global capability centres, a mega tech city and a fintech city. For this, a high‑level committee will be formed under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and experts will be roped in as consultants. The committee will submit its report on the action plan in six months.
Another proposal was approved to constitute a high‑level committee under the Chief Secretary to formulate an action plan for the establishment of sugar mills and revival of those non-functionional.
The Chief Secretary said that nine closed sugar mills will start functioning again, while 25 new ones will be set up.
In a tweet after the meeting, Nitish underscored the government’s commitment to job creation. “Providing maximum government jobs and employment opportunities to the youth has always been our priority. Under Saat Nischay-2, between 2020 and 2025, 50 lakh young people in the state received government jobs and employment,” Nitish said in a social media post. “For the next five years (2025-30), we have set a target to provide one crore youths with jobs and employment opportunities,” he added.
