A total of 28 candidates from different youth wings contested for the 10 seats including Yuva Sena (UBT), Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), among others.

In a sweeping victory for Yuva Sena — the youth wing of Shiv Sena (UBT) — at the graduate constituency elections of Mumbai University’s Senate, its candidates won all ten seats as the counting of votes was conducted on Friday.
The counting for the tenth seat was still on till the filing of this story.
After a prolonged delay, due to political and legal disputes, the Mumbai University Senate’s graduate constituency elections were finally held earlier this week on Tuesday. Out of total 13,406 graduates registered as voters for this election, only 55 per cent cast their votes at 38 polling stations and 64 booths spread across Mumbai city, suburbs, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, considering the vast jurisdiction of Mumbai University which has over 850 affiliated colleges.
A total of 28 candidates from different youth wings contested for the 10 seats including Yuva Sena (UBT), Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), among others. Candidates of Yuva Sena (UBT) who were declared winners on Friday are – Pradeep Sawant, Milind Satam, Alpesh Bhoir, Param Yadav, Shashikant Zore, Sheetal Devrukhkar, Dhanraj Kohchade, Mayur Panchal and Sneha Gawli.
Pradeep Sawant, who has been a Senate member in the previous term too, said, “Despite political pressure being used by others, today’s result shows that youngsters trust Yuva Sena (UBT) to represent their issues at the Senate. We are looking forward to contributing to varsity’s development, now that the Senate will finally have a full forum.”
Sankalp Faldesai, state secretary of ABVP Konkan, said, “It was an election between political giants vs student union. We fought our best, there may be some strategic faults, to which we will surely introspect. Apart from all the malpractices the winners did during the elections, at last they have their names penned on winning sheets.”
The MU Senate elections for the graduate constituency have been pending for over two years and have been mired in controversy owing to political developments in the state. Yuva Sena, from the time of undivided Shiv Sena, has been the strongest candidate at Mumbai University Senate in past elections. In the previous term, the Yuva Sena had won all the 10 posts.
Congratulating all winning candidates, Yuva Sena (UBT) chief Aaditya Thackeray, “Our candidates worked hard and voters supported us. Due to the fear of losing, elections are not being held in the city and local bodies of the state. There were efforts by Opposition to stop the Senate election too but I thank the court.”
