Copyright violation: Alleges its film songs were played at Wankhede during WC matches without permission
Policemen at the Marine Drive police station will soon have to listen to all the Bollywood songs played during the World Cup 2011 matches at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to celebrate boundaries and sixes. They will now have to obtain the data on exactly which songs were played at the stadium without obtaining a licence to do so.
The Marine Drive police confirmed that they have received the application and are in a process of collecting evidences to book the BCCI and MCA authorities.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Marine Drive) Iqbal Shaikh said they have asked the Novex Communications to provide a list and audio evidences to prove that the songs from Yash Raj productions were played. We have also asked them to give us the duration of the songs played in the stadium during the matches.
Based on these evidences,we would pursue the case further. We would then question the person who played the songs and will find out whether he had permissions. We will also ask the BCCI authorities if they had proper permissions to play the songs. This is a copyright issue and usually the aggrieved party demands damages, said Shaikh.
However,the investigations are on and we will complete them shortly, he added.
