‘Women representation barely visible

The 50 per cent women reservation might have led political parties to field and elect women corporators in the civic body,but the women representation was barely visible in the formation of the BMC’s vital decision making committees.

The 50 per cent women reservation might have led political parties to field and elect women corporators in the civic body,but the women representation was barely visible in the formation of the BMC’s vital decision making committees.

While the 26-member standing committee— responsible for approving financial budgets of various projects- includes only seven women corporators,the improvement committee which makes decision on land related matters has only nine women corporators of 26 members .

The Bombay Electric Supply & Transport Company (BEST) committee which decides on policy decisions and procurement issues in the BEST undertaking has only two women corporators of the total 16 members. The education panel has 16 women representatives of 22 members.

The prominent members of the Standing committee include Manoj Kotak (BJP) ,Harun Khan (NCP), Geeta Gawli (ABS),Jyotsna Dighe (Congress),Asif Zakaria (Congress),Pravin Chheda (Congress),Dhananjay Pisal (NCP),Yashodhar Phanse (Shiv Sena),Shuba Raul (ex-mayor and Shiv Sena corporator) and Shiv Sena corporator Rahul Shewale.
