2 more students record statements against Navi Mumbai woman teacher held for obscene video call with Class 10 student

(Express Photo)A day after the Navi Mumbai police arrested a 35-year-old woman school teacher for allegedly undressing during video calls with a Class 10 student, the police are in the process of recording statements of two more students with whom she made similar calls.
On Tuesday, the Navi Mumbai police arrested the school teacher for allegedly undressing during a video chat with a Class 10 student last year. The alleged incident came to light after the student’s mother saw the video saved on his phone and complained to the local police.
According to the police, the teacher, who has been employed at the school for the past two years, engaged in a video chat with the student for providing online lessons on water conservation. The student recorded the call. During the chat, the woman allegedly undressed herself and was semi-naked.
“Last week, the student’s mother saw the video on her son’s phone. When she questioned him, he told her about the incident. The woman then approached us with a recording of the video on Monday,” said a police officer.
“Since the boy is a minor, based on the video, an FIR was registered against the teacher under sections of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act Monday. She was arrested the next day,” the officer added.
An officer said, “Two more students have come forward with a similar complaint and we will be recording their statements as well.”
The police produced the teacher before a court, which sent her to police custody for a day. Police said they have sent the teacher’s mobile phone to the forensic science laboratory to check if there are any similar videos.
The alleged incident comes close on the heels of an incident in Mumbai where a woman school teacher was arrested for allegedly having a relationship with and sexually assaulting a minor boy student. The alleged sexual assault came to light when the boy’s parents noticed changes in his behaviour and asked him to open up.
After the arrest, the teacher underwent a psychiatric test at a government hospital. The police later produced her in a court, which sent her to judicial custody and she was eventually released on bail.
