A 36-year-old woman was detained Friday for allegedly killing foster mother of her husband.
The foster mother,Krishnabai Kolhe (65),was found dead in her house Wednesday. Police had initially filed an accidental death report, but registered a murder case after post-mortem confirmed Kolhe was smothered.
Dahisar police said Kolhe was a widow and used to stay with her adopted son Santosh Mohite in Dahisar.
Tuesday night,Santosh,a security guard, returned home from work and found Kolhe lying motionless in bed.
He assumed she was sleeping and went to sleep himself.
However, when he tried to wake her up in the morning and she did not move,he rushed her to Bhagwati Hospital where she was declared dead before admission.
After the post-mortem report said Kolhe choked to death,we registered a complaint of murder and initiated investigation. We found out that Seema, second wife of Santosh, and Kolhe would fight constantly. Kolhe owned a room in Ketakipada,Dahisar (East),and Seema had been trying to convince her to transfer it in her name.
However,Kolhe recently named Santosh the beneficiary in her will, said senior inspector Ansar Peerzade,Dahisar police.
Seema was picked up for questioning on suspicion. Police later found out that her brother Santosh Ingle came to Mumbai from his native Beed on Tuesday and left the same day. They suspect the brother-sister killed Kolhe when she was alone at home.
A Dahisar police officer said Seema started confessing by Friday night and would soon be arrested.
Peerzade said police teams had been sent to locate and pick up Ingle.
Kolhe used to work as a conservancy worker and was childless. She came to know Santosh as he was in the same line of work and later adopted him, said a police officer.
