The BMC on Friday lifted the water cut in the city for a month. The administration said the cut had been temporarily lifted owing to festivals.

“Ramzan is on and other festivals such as Dahi Handi and Ganesh Chaturthi are round the corner. We have decided to lift the water cut for a month keeping in mind the increased requirement of water,” said municipal commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya. “We will once again review the water situation after a month and decide whether to impose a cut again or not.”

The city will receive 3,400 million litres a day. During the cut,it used to get around 3,264 mld. The total water stock in all the six lakes is 11,07,565 million litres. “Though we are short by over two lakh million litres, stock in lakes is better as compared to last year,” said Kshatriya.

Of the six lakes, four—Modak Sagar,Tansa,Vihar and Tulsi—have already started overflowing, while Bhatsa and Upper Vaitarna are short by 16 per cent and 36 per cent respectively.
