Nisha Pokam,who attempted suicide in Andheri (West) on January 11 after she was called for questioning in connection with the suicide of a bank executive with whom she was allegedly trying to end an affair with told DN Nagar police on Monday that she was scared and was not in a proper frame of mind since her friends death.
D N Nagar police recorded Pokams statement on Monday at Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri (West),where she was admitted after the attempt to end her life. Police had waited all these days for her to recover.
Pokam (25),who was staying with her parents at building 14 in Manish Nagar,Four Bungalows,jumped off the fourth floor two days after the death of bank executive Vishal Gambhir (33),police has earlier said. According to the police,Gambhir had jumped from the 18th floor of Oberoi Woods Tower in Goregaon (East) owing to a failed affair with Pokam.
According to Vijay Bhoite,senior police inspector,DN Nagar police station,doctors on Monday said Pokam was out of danger so police recorded her statement.
Pokam allegedly told the police that she had been in shock and had taken the action in a daze.
Pokam said that after she saw Gambhir jump to his death before her,she was scared and was mentally disturbed. Ever since she returned to her parents house,the vision of his suicide haunted her,and she too felt she should kill herself, said Bhoite.
Pokam also said that she was not in her proper senses when she jumped off. She will take months to recover,and we will again record her statement and decide whether to take action against her or not. We are waiting for her to be discharged from hospital, Bhoite said.
Her parents in their statements given earlier reportedly told police she was staying with them as the lease of her rented apartment in Andheri had expired. Pokam and her husband were planning to shift to a new house and had seen a flat in Kandivali,they said. Pokams parents had claimed they were unaware of her alleged affair with Gambhir,as he had visited their house on many occasions as a friend.
According to the police,when she jumped,Pokams mother and brother were home. At 12.15 pm January 11,police received a call about the attempted suicide. Pokams brother had then told police they were unaware that she was not inside the house.
Pokams family learnt about the incident when some children raised an alarm and a security guard alerted them. Her family members rushed down the building to find her in a pool of blood. She was rushed to Kokilaben Hospital which was nearby.
