Vivek Oberoi’s former driver among three held for theft

The Mumbai police Crime Branch on Friday arrested three persons for allegedly robbing cash and valuables from a well-known film makeup artist.

The Mumbai police Crime Branch on Friday arrested three persons for allegedly robbing cash and valuables from a well-known film makeup artist. The three have worked as drivers for different Bollywood actors. The trio was also allegedly involved in the theft at actor Armaan Kohli’s office in Santacruz last year.

The accused have been identified as Asif Ali Hussain (25),his cousin Mohammed Imtiyaz Ghulam Hussain (23) and Umesh Sachdeva alias Sonu. Sachdeva used to work as a driver for actor Vivek Oberoi till three months back.

According to the police,on May 11,make up artist Mallika Bhatt (28) returned to her residence at Peace Haven Building in Bandra from a film shoot early in the morning. As soon as she opened the door of her flat three men pushed her inside. The men pointed a pistol at her and bound her arms and legs with the wire of a mobile phone charger. They took cash and jewellery worth Rs 2.88 lakh and fled.

“We have recovered all the stolen property except for Rs 18,000 which the accused have spent,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria. He added,“These three drivers wanted to act in films. To finance their plans they decided that they would have to buy three cars and run a taxi service. To raise money for this venture they had even followed a businessman with the intention of kidnapping him for ransom. However,they backed out of this plan. Asif had worked for Bhatt. He thought that she could be a soft target for them.”
