Sabjiwaala.com,a website launched by 3 IIT-B boys, delivers fresh and clean vegetables to Powai residents

The bright 21-year-old,studying civil engineering at the country’s top engineering school,is no more interested in structure and aesthetics of buildings. Rather,he is pre-occupied with how to deliver the next pack of fresh and clean vegetables to a resident of the elite Hiranandani Complex on time.

Rohit Goyal is one of those three IIT-Bombay boys who decided to tap the vegetable vending market as a career choice, but with their technological twist. The other two are Siddharth Kataria (24) who passed electrical engineering last year and Anshul Singhal (27) who was teaching at a coaching class after graduation. Sabjiwaala.com,their website that caters to over 1,000 customers on a daily basis,is just six months old but is already a hit amongst residents of Powai.

‘’We have around 500 loyal customers, calling us every day or placing their orders online. They trust our service not only for on-time delivery, but also for fresh vegetables,’’ Goyal says.

His journey was not an easy one. ‘’My parents got the shock of their life. I come from a humble business family in a small Rajasthan village. They just could not digest that I was asking them to support me in a venture as unconventional as this. They eventually relented.’’

Kataria and Singhal hail from Saranpur district in Uttar Pradesh. ‘’It was a sudden interaction one day that we decided to tap the web world. Initially it was clothing and books that we considered, but realised that people will drop in just once or perhaps a couple of times in a month. Vegetable seemed like an inevitable option,’’ Kataria says.

The website, which gets over a 1,000 hits a day,has all veggies listed. A customer only needs to click on his/her vegetable, quantity and place of delivery. The boys claim to deliver the items within 24 hours. ‘’It does not matter what quantity you are looking for. From a mere 250 gm to

a quintal,we make it all available,’’

Goyal adds.

Their next plan is to reach out to a larger market and cover the whole of island city, hoping to redefine the way vegetables
