UAE techie reports loss of gold ornaments worth Rs 7.2 lakh at Mumbai airport

“The complainant and his family came to India on November 26 and after conducting the ceremony in their hometown of Vadodara in mid-December, they started their journey back to Dubai on December 30.”

Police said they travelled to Mumbai, from where they were to fly back to Dubai, and the family was carrying nine bags.

“Three of them were checked in, while they carried six handbags on the airplane,” said an officer, adding, “The complainant realized that gold ornaments worth Rs 7.2 lakhs were stolen from one of the bags after they reached home in Dubai.”

Police said the complainant flew back to India on January 3. He initially went to Vadodara and Ahmedabad, and after conducting an inquiry there, he went to Mumbai airport.

“At Ahmedabad airport, he sought help from the CISF personnel and checked the images of the scanned luggage when he discovered that the jewellery was in the bag. But when he checked the scanned images at the airport in Mumbai, he found that the ornaments were missing, which led him to believe that the ornaments were stolen in Mumbai,” said an officer.

The man then approached Sahar police station in Mumbai, following which a case was registered. Police have formed a team to trace the culprit who stole the ornaments.
