Two employees of a Hyderabad based jewellery firm were allegedly kidnapped and robbed of Rs 2.62 crores in broad daylight on Wednesday. The police said the four unidentified accused posed as Crime Branch officials and robbed them of the cash and jewellery, and then abandoned them near Bhiwandi.

According to police, the complainant Hariram Ghotia works for the Hyderabad based jewellery company. An officer privy to the investigation said, “Ghotia along with his co-worker left for Mumbai from Hyderabad on Tuesday for Javeri bazaar, carrying many gold ornaments and cash. They alighted the bus near Sion circle at about 9am on Wednesday.

“As soon as they got off the bus, three of the four individuals approached them, flashing fake ID cards, claiming to be Delhi Crime Branch officers. They forced the two employees to sit in their Innova. “The four then assaulted them in the car and snatched their bag of cash and ornaments, and their cellphones. The complainant and his co-worker were pushed out of the car near Bhiwandi,” said a senior police officer.

The complainant then procured a new sim card and informed his employer about the incident, after which they came to the Sion police station. A case under relevant sections of the IPC was registered. The investigator said they have “managed to locate and detain some suspects and are interrogating them.”
