While Avasthi was standing in a queue,Tiwari stood behind him and began talking to him. Soon,Dubey approached Tiwari and asked him to fill up a deposit slip for him. Tiwari then asked the amount to be deposited,to which Dubey replied Rs 1.5 lakh.
Following this,Tiwari pretended to confront Dubey and asked him about the cash. Dubey told him he had stolen the money from his boss in Virar and wanted to send it to his village, the police said.
Tiwari then threatened to inform the police, but when Dubey pleaded him not to do so,he turned to Avasthi and said they could divide the money and let Dubey go. According to the police,Avasthi agreed and Tiwari took the bundle of cash wrapped in a handkerchief from Dubey and asked him to leave the bank. While Dubey was leaving,he asked for some cash to go back home. Tiwari took out Rs 1,000 and also asked Avasthi to hand over Rs 2,500.
Tiwari then gave the bundle of cash to Avasthi and told him he would be back after dropping Dubey outside. When the two accused were on their way out,Avasthi noticed that the bundle had only one Rs 500 note on the top, while the rest was white paper. He immediately raised an alarm.
