Two killed, one injured after falling into 15ft-deep sewer drain in Malad

The incident was reported near Malwani's gate no. 8 in Malad's Ambujwadi area at 5.24 pm on Thursday.

Two persons were killed while another was grievously injured after falling into a 15-ft-deep sewer drain of a public toilet in Malad West’s Malwani area on Thursday evening.

The incident was reported near Malwani’s gate no. 8 in Malad’s Ambujwadi area at 5.24 pm on Thursday.

According to preliminary information given by the BMC, the three victims fell into the chamber of a sewer drain of a public toilet, which is nearly 15-feet deep. The toilet, according to officials, is maintained by a private contractor.

Soon after the incident came to light, the three men were rescued by locals of the area, even before the Mumbai Fire Brigade could arrive at the spot.

The victims, upon rescue, were taken to the civic-run BDBA hospital in Kandivali, where one was declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, another victim was declared dead around 10.15 pm, as per information provided by the civic disaster cell.

The two deceased have been identified as Suraj Kevat (18) and Bikas Kevat (20). The other victim has been identified as Ramlagan Kevat (45). His condition remains critical.
