Two persons,including a two-year-old,died after they were hit by a running train on the Thane-Vashi railway line while crossing the tracks on Tuesday morning. According to Vashi railway police,the incident occurred at 10.30 am when a 30-year-old-woman along with her two children,both girls aged 1 and 2,were crossing the railway line between Turbhe and Koparkhairne. While crossing the tracks,the woman did not notice the train coming from the Thane side and was hit along with the children. The three were rushed to a Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC)-run hospital but the woman and the two-year-old girl were declared dead before admission. The condition of the one-year-old girl is said to be critical. The woman has been identified as Chandra Kishan Singh and her two-year-old daughter as Aarti. The injured has been identified as Nanu and the family resided in Koparkhairne. The railways has been taking numerous initiatives to discourage people from crossing tracks. Cases of trespassing are on the rise on the Thane-Vashi route as at some places there is no boundary wall and in some cases the miscreants have damaged the wall to cross the tracks. We have taken several steps to curb trespassing. In spite of frequent publicity campaigns and other deterrent measures such incidents do take place and prove fatal for the commuters, said Shriniwas Mudgerikar,chief spokesperson,Central Railway. Best buses collide; two injuredIn another incident,a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus collided with another,injuring two passengers. According to A S Tamboli,BEST spokesperson,a BEST bus (route no 63) collided with another (route no 172) at the Lokmanya Tilak bridge,Dadar,on Tuesday noon. BEST officials are yet to ascertain the reason behind the accident but Batuknath Yadav,the driver of bus route no 63 has been taken into custody. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital. Since the injuries were minor,they were discharged soon after the treatment, added Tamboli.
