Nagpada Neighbourhood House and Holy Cross registered comfortable victories to emerge youth boys’ and girls’ champions,respectively,in the 24th Bombay YMCA Annual Open State Level Basketball Tournament,at the Ghatkopar YMCA on Tuesday.
Considered formidable favourites from the start,NNH proved too strong for Andheri YMCA and won 102-28,with Gulam Moinuddin top scoring with 28 points and Naved Quereshi adding 17 for the winners.
In the youth girls final,Holy Cross endured a strong first-half challenge before overcoming Chembur’s St Anthonys 43-25,after leading 19-17 at half time. Tanvi Dabhade top-scored for the winners with 15 points,while Aditi Waghmare added 10.
St Anthonys later made amends as their junior girls beat St Theresas 41-26 to clinch the title in this category.
Meanwhile,the mens semi-finals witnessed former champions Maharashtra State Police shock last years runners-up Central Railway 67-60 in a thriller,after trailing 37-39 at half-time. With their narrow win,the state cops also set up a title clash with Savio Club who overcame Indian Gymkhana 57-46.
