Toontown Online,an internet game, takes your child into the world of make-believe

Cartoon shows on television, inspired kids to enact their favourite characters at birthday parties or fancy dress competitions. With development in technology, kids can now choose to be their favourite cartoon character online. Toontown Online is one such virtual world where kids can simply log on to the computer, visit the website play.toontown.com to create their own Toontown account and start their voyage. But before they can interact with the other characters in the virtual world, their first step is to create, paint and name their own online avatar in any shape, size or character they wish. Once they have been familiarised through a ‘toon-torial’ which is a section on the site, they’re ready to play.

Toontown Online an internet game revolves around a happy and fun-filled world. All of its inhabitants are happy until the cogs—humourless business robots—who are attempting to turn the colourful, happy world of Toontown into a corporate metropolis, plan an attack on the Toontowners.

So it’s up to the toons—you among them—to save Toontown. During the combat, swords and guns are not used to attack or defend. Toons here rely on what works best for them-gags. Since cogs hate humour, getting them to laugh makes them explode. One can toss pies, squirt water, drop anvils or tell jokes to explode a cog or even heal their friends by making them laugh. The cogs on their part use their business tactics to fight back—like firing paper shreddings or smacking a rubber stamp at them. The format is definitely a welcome change from games where violence plays a main part.

What differentiates it from other games is that the chat option allows players to chat with fellow players and also allows them to team up to kill the cogs. This option also makes it a good team game and helps develop strategizing skills. While the game is interesting enough,it is not frustrating. It has simple goals to be achieved and you are not roaming around mindlessly. This makes it more desirable. While the toontown is vibrant with clouds floating and flowers blooming, the houses of cogs are made to appear dull and boring. The animated characters in colourful clothes are quite a delight and they make the overall experience quite exciting.

An interesting feature is earning brownie points in Toontown. Besides battling cogs, toons can earn jellybeans by completing tasks and playing trolley games like catching falling apples from the orchard. They can trade jellybeans for gags to stop cogs or to make purchases for their houses or wardrobes. Each toon also has a laugh metre. The points on the metre can be increased by eating icecreams or chatting with friends.
