Attention shifted from speculation of Ajit Pawar joining the BJP, later denied by the leader, to his uncle Sharad Pawar’s resignation as NCP chief. What followed across the state and especially in party bastion Baramati was protests and pleas by NCP leaders and workers, demanding Sharad Pawar’s to remain at the helm. “After this prolonged political career, one must think about stopping somewhere. Protests against refinery project in Barsu-Solgaon continue

➡️ While chaos surrounded his own party, Sharad Pawar talked to activists protesting a refinery project in Barsu Solgaon and later met state industries minister Uday Samant.

➡️ The minister assured that the government won’t go ahead with the proposed refinery without clearing the doubts and misconceptions of the villagers opposing the mega project. The Maharashtra government also told the Bombay High Court that it will withdraw the orders prohibiting eight residents from entering their villages in Ratnagiri.

Obituary

Prashant Nadkar, The Indian Express’s principal photographer based in Mumbai, died of a cardiac arrest on Friday evening. He was 48. Nadkar had done exemplary work covering the Mumbai deluge of 2005, the blasts in Mumbai local trains the following, the Malegaon blasts of 2006, and the 26/11 attacks in 2008.
