Tram Arts Trust is presenting its new object and material theatre performance titled ‘Maati Katha’. Born out of an ongoing three-year-long ethnographic research project that studies traditional and contemporary doll-making practices of West Bengal, the play explores the history of oral traditions, myths, and folklores that surround this practice and its linkages to tangible and intangible heritage conservation. The play also draws inspiration from the art, lifestyles, and philosophies of one of eastern India’s most marginalised and at-risk communities – the people of Sunderbans. The performance will be accompanied by an exhibition titled ‘Putul Katha – Doll Arts of West Bengal and Their Stories’.
