High alert has been sounded in Maharashtra after the terror strike in Gurdaspur district of Punjab on Monday morning. In the wake of intelligence inputs from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a review meeting with top police officers to assess the situation and make necessary deployments.

The state home department said there was a special emphasis on stepping up security in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Nagpur.

The terror attack, coupled with the Supreme Court’s awaited directive on 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts convict Yakub Memon’s plea against death penalty, has the intelligence agencies urging the state home ministry to scale up security.
