Suicide pact goes awry

“The neighbours heard screaming and opened their door to find Sonal on the floor with throat slit. They opened her house to find the bathroom door locked. They informed us,and a team of officers was dispatched to the spot. We broke down the door and found Jayesh there. His throat was also slit and he was lying in the bathroom,” an officer said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI) Mahesh Patil said police recovered a note in Gujarati from the house.

“The note said that Sonal and Jayesh were in love and could not stay without each other. It read that they had entered a suicide pact where Jayesh would first slit Sonal’s throat,before inflicting the wound on himself. Both of them were rushed to the hospital where they are recuperating. We have booked Jayesh under section 307 (attempt to murder) and also attempt to suicide of the IPC,” “However,we need to verify whether the note was written before Jayesh slit Sonal’s throat. We need to record their statements when they recover,” Patil said.

While Goregaon resident Jayesh is an orchestra singer by profession,Sonal was married for the past twelve years. The police have recorded the statement of her husband Viral.
