Sub-inspector commits suicide on local train

A 54-year-old police sub-inspector (PSI) shot himself using his service revolver in the early hours of Sunday inside a local train at CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai.

A 54-year-old police sub-inspector (PSI) shot himself using his service revolver in the early hours of Sunday inside a local train at CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai. His suicide note said he had been harassed by his colleagues.

The Panvel Government Railway Police (GRP) said PSI Prabhakar Parshuram Patil who was attached to Turbhe police station and a resident of Panvel was found dead around 1.15 am when the train was stationed at the Belapur carshed.

They said the personnel on the last train from Panvel that reaches Belapur at 11.30 pm before going to the carshed for maintenance found the body and informed the GRP.

Inspector S Gurav said investigations have revealed that Patil had left his station around 9.30 pm. He shot himself in the temple and had left a suicide note that alleged harassment from his seniors and other police personnel.

“The suicide note recovered said he was harassed by policemen in his police station and a senior had also criticised him on Saturday. We will take statements of police personnel who were present on the duty on Saturday to investigate the veracity of the claims. He has also alleged harassment of some police personnel from Koparkhairne police station,” said Gurav.

The body was sent for postmortem examination at a local government hospital after which it was handed over to the family. The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
