The Sunshine Boys is here to put a smile on childrens faces
Culture Vultures in Mumbai can rejoice. American playwright,Neil Simons acclaimed play,The Sunshine Boys,is finally coming to Mumbai, albeit as an Indian adaptation. It will be staged at Shine On,a collaboration between four city NGOs for child welfare,Nanhi Kali, the Education Audiology and Research Society,Mumbai Mobile Creches and CHIP Mumbai, which have joined hands with Delhi-based lawyer,Percival Billimoria to gather funds for their cause. The play is the main attraction of the festival which will be on till November 24. I have changed the script and instead of basing it in New York, the story is now based in Mumbai. Also,I have made it more contemporary, says Billiomria.
The 90-minute long play was staged in Delhi last year as well. Apart from The Sunshine Boys, the week-long festival also has a book-reading session of Three Cups of Tea for adults and Stones into School for children. We would like to return to Mumbai if the reception is good this time, concludes Billiomria. The play, which saw one successful staging at NCPAs Experimental Theatre on Thursday, will be performed tonight at Sophia Bhabha Hall and at St. Andrews Auditorium in Bandra on November 26.
