Quest asked students of Mumbai schools: Should money be spent on space explorations? Currently, one of the most important issues is the world’s waste of money on space exploration. It is a well known fact that some rich countries spend billions on space exploration, sending costly satellites while people in poor countries suffer from diseases, malnutrition and acute starvation. The opinion are divided as to whether the high cost on space adventures is waste of money or beneficial to mankind should be also spent on extremely significant issues. There is no denying that efforts should be made to know more about the universe and its hidden mysteries. Countries have been spending billions to make rapid advancement in space technology, sending astronauts, communication satellites and explore other planets. Space research has helped us in many ways but it does not mean that every time money be spend on space exploration. We should try to stop this space exploration. Akksa Juby, Class VIII, St Francis High School, Bhayander (E) Today we face a lot of serious issues here on Earth and it gets worse as we simply watch them grow. These are the general crisis that are coming to the planet, quite apart from the economic ones we're so obsessed with at the moment.According to my point of view, money spent on research is a gross waste of money, time and effort that could be much better applied to the management of our own planet. Inevitably the greed of development leads to the extinction of culture. This is exactly what is happening to us today. We're experiencing climate change, famine, drought, warfare and we're investing money needed to solve these problems in Space. I would rather suggest that spending so much money on space expeditions is a waste and it should rather be put to use in solving other crisis. And also that Investing in further scientific exploration of space is a waste of resources. Chirag Sharma, Class VIII, Ryan International School, Malad (W) Space exploration is a big part of world history and has been shrouded with controversy for years and years. Space exploration is defined as the investigation of physical conditions in space and on stars, planets, and their moons through the use of artificial satellites, space probes, and spacecraft with human crews. One example of an inspiring event in space exploration was Apollo project. The Apollo missions were quite possibly the most popular and publicized events in American history. The Apollo missions were often disastrous, successful, triumphant, and also neutral and routine. Throughout all the publicity and controversy space exploration will remain in world history forever and will continue to live in the heart of Man. Space travel has many roots and a large history. Thus, space exploration should be promoted for more development in science and technology. Arshiya Khan, Class IX, St Xavier’s High School, Kashigaon Yes, we should spend money on space exploration, because the Earth is our home, but Earth is a finite resource. The future of the human race lies in the outer reaches of space. We should be devoting more time to researching terraforming processes, new energy sources, and different propulsion systems to not only better the lives of those here on Earth, but to better the lives of our generations to come. The world overpopulation is the most issue that the economists and biologists concern. The space change can affects our planet directly. Imagine what will happen whether the earth moves too closer to or too farther away from the sun. I firmly believe that we should finance space exploration in order to get rid of brutal dangers from universe and to find useful sources for humankind to live in secure through the far future. Helps the Future of our Humanity. Dhruv Kiran Shah, Class VII, St Lawrence High School, Borivali (W) Some developed countries have been involved on a big project of space expedition by sending much budget. Some believe that it will be able to be very useful for development of science in the future. The others, however, disagree that space programme will provide more disadvantages and advantages for the human. Nations allocate its money to support space exploration and show people up that the countries have the most modern technology. In addition space exploration can also give more information for people about whatever is out of the Earth, so it will have completed available knowledge and can decrease their curiosity. Another one the people can prevent some problems or threats in the future by understanding reports which they have from result of the program. For example, the experts can predict that a big meteor which can probably destroy the Earth will come after learning its signs. Therefore, the countries all around the world can work together to find out a new planet to stay. Gaurav Daga, Class VIII, St Francis High School Bhayander (E) Billions of dollars are spent every year by the world's space agencies but does this money bring us any benefit, or should we pull the plug and spend it elsewhere? Some benefits of space exploration are stated as follows. To study and explore possibilities of existence of life in other planet. To study formation of new planets, galaxies and meteoroids. Space tourism and to study possible collision of meteoroids with earth. Space exploration is waste of money because: To spend time and money to develop these products for us space, but usually there are many civilian applications for the same products. Manasi Kamble, Class IX, St Joseph’s High School, New Panvel I think resources should continue to be used for space exploration. There are many people who look upon space exploration as an unnecessary expense incurred trying to satisfy dreamers, while leaving real problems like human suffering unresolved. But it has had many practical benefits in the past, and will continue to yield in the future. The possibilities are bondless once we break the bonds that the earth has around us and overcome the fear and ignorance of our fellow human beings. In my opinion money should be spent on space exploration. Mukul Gaikwad, Class IX, St Mary’s High School, Mira Road In my opinion limited amount of money should be spent on space exploration because that money we can use to take care of our country. India is a developing country and our government is also trying to develop and for that we need money. In india there are many people who are not having houses to live and there are many families who are dying because of starvation. To overcome this situation we can use money rather than spending crores and millions on space exploration. To explore the universe is also important because we can learn many things but if our country is not literate then what is the use of space exploration. Space exploration uses millions of dollars to go and research but till now we have found no life in solar system. Therefore limited amount of money should be used in space exploration until our country is developed. Vedangi Mumbaikar, Class VIII, St Joseph’s High School, New Panvel Why high growth? Companies realize that despite the high levels of unemployment. In some location, skills are hard to find jobs have become more specialized and even highly skilled professions must continuously renivent themselves. The e-learning industry is over 2 billion and growing has change dramatically. The expulsion of massive open courses is further expanding. The market organisation research shows that while underfunding, training is a problem. The use of average spending benchmark can be misleading. Your training leader should benchmark yourself against this shows that spending more money on training pays off. Tejal Patil, Class IX, St Joseph’s High School, New Panvel Space Exploration is the quest to use space travel to discover the nature of the universe beyond earth. Today's Space Exploration started in 1957 with the launch of the first artificial satellite, but since ancient times people have dreamed of leaving their home planet and exploring other worlds. Every era throughout history has had a belief as to what the "heavens" are made form. We know now what stars are really made of; they are made of various gases that explode over and over again. Mankind has come a long ways from the days when we could only guess what was out there. Siddiqui Fiza, Class IX , St Xavier’s High School, Kashigaon The expenditure in space exploration has always been an area of interest and considerable discussion. The views on the subject remain conflicting. Space exploration is a human desire. However, humanity and the necessary code of living for humans is a far more superior priority. Space exploration does help in making a nation technologically advanced. But for a less developed nation like India, spending money on the exploration of the universe may be a huge wastage as the money can instead be used in decreasing poverty, improving health and sanitation and many other problems that are in need of urgent attention. Space research is influential in discovering new planets, stars and the space beyond. But is spending so much of money in exploring space more important than exploring the world that we live in? No. Hence it can be concluded that space research programmes are not beneficial enough to spend the money that can be used for the well being of people.
