Six arrested for forging sureties in Mumbai

A police official was sent posing as a customer to Jaiswal outside the court in Belapur who assured the official that he would prepare forged documents in the required name.

THE NAVI Mumbai Police has arrested six persons allegedly involved in forging surety documents before multiple courts in the city. The anti-extortion cell of the Navi Mumbai Police received information that accused Diwakar Jaiswal was allegedly involved in preparing fake copies of Aadhaar card, ration card, PAN card, driving licences and other such documents to submit for surety required for attaining bail in a criminal case.

A police official was sent posing as a customer to Jaiswal outside the court in Belapur who assured the official that he would prepare forged documents in the required name. “When he returned the next day with the forged documents, we arrested him. We seized with him multiple documents with photographs of one individual but with different names, including pay slips and identity cards of a private firm. He also had documents required in court, including rubber stamps of various police stations and government offices,” said an official of the Navi Mumbai Police.

Five others including gang members who posed for surety in multiple cases or made forged documents and stamps were also arrested. Police officials said the gang could be involved in 400-500 such cases of fake surety in various courts.
