(File Photo)In what can be called a possible sign of friction in the ruling Maha Yuti (grand alliance) comprising the BJP, Shinde Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, the parliamentary board of Shiv Sena decided to stake claim to 18 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state for the upcoming general election.
The Shiv Sena parliamentary party meeting was held at Varsha Bungalow on Monday chaired by the Sena president and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
According to party functionaries, during the meeting the MPs and Sena leaders expressed their displeasure towards the BJP asking the Shinde Sena to contest on only 12 seats and proposed that the party must contest on 18 seats. It was then unanimously decided that the Sena will claim 18 seats for the LS polls during the seat sharing with its alliance and not just 12 as proposed by the BJP.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the undivided Shiv Sena had contested on 22 seats and won 18. “The Shiv Sena had contested 22 seats in the last general elections. During the meeting we have decided to contest on 18 seats at least and candidates will start preparation for 18 seats. The powers to decide on the remaining four seats have been given to CM Shinde. A proposal to give power for a seat sharing discussion to Eknath Shinde was presented during the meeting and has been passed unanimously,” a party functionary said.
The functionary said several other issues were also discussed during the meeting and a decision to form a special committee to campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections was also taken. At the meeting it was also decided that a special coordination committee for Mumbai for the LS polls will be formed.
